Benjamin LaCount passed away Sunday, October 4th. The Mithril Warhammers knew him as Simeron Steelhammer, he was the founder of our guild and its long time leader. Ben gave us a place to call home, form friendships, and create a lifetime of memories with our bearded brothers of the internet. We owe him much more than words can express and we grieve his loss.
Eulogy from Dorgin/Brian
To say that Ben, aka Simeron, was a special person would be a gross understatement. I don’t think that in his wildest dreams that Ben ever would have dreamed that the guild he founded would have turned into what it is today more than 20 years later – one of the most tight-knit gaming communities you will ever find. It was his passion (and oftentimes his stubbornness) that helped foster the bonds all of us who are lucky enough to call the Mithril Warhammers home have formed over the years. Sometimes those bonds were formed in spite of him (us dwarves are a rather stubborn bunch) and sometimes they were formed because of him. The core value that the guild was founded on – loyalty – is still the binding thread that keeps us all together 20 years later (and counting). Today in our discord you will find us stubbornly arguing about anything from sports to the best character builds in a game to movies (in rare moments you might even find us agreeing with one another) … But in the end, we are all still friends, and for that, we owe Ben a debt of gratitude for first starting and later passing on the idea of the Mithril Warhammers. I say idea because the guild has become so much more than just a guild – it’s now so much bigger than any one person – and its a group of friends most of us will carry on with until we meet our own life’s end. Until we meet again, Simeron Steelhammer, HAMMERS HIGH!
